Design and materials

Your style, built to last.

There is no single Flint look. We design and build modern and traditional pergolas and covered structures, and the materials come down to your taste. Wood, stone, finishes, and colors are chosen with you during your consultation.

What we push for is quality. When a client wants natural wood, for example, we steer them toward cedar over basic pressure-treated lumber, and we go over the sealing and upkeep any outdoor wood needs. Ready to talk? Request a quote.

Before you build

Pergola permits and HOA rules near US 380.

Prosper requires a permit for pergolas, arbors, and patio covers, whether attached to the house or freestanding. Covers over 250 square feet need piers, and structures over 400 square feet need plans sealed by an engineer or architect. See the Town of Prosper's homeowner permit requirements.

In Celina, accessory structures over 120 square feet need a permit, and so does any structure attached to the house, according to the city's accessory structure packet. See the City of Celina's residential permit page. McKinney and Aubrey have their own rules.

Many master-planned communities also require HOA architectural approval before construction. Bring your HOA's design guidelines to your consultation and we will go over what your address needs. Rules change, so always confirm current requirements with your city.

Questions

Pergola questions.

Do I need a permit for a pergola in Prosper or Celina?

Prosper requires one for pergolas, attached or freestanding. Celina requires one for structures over 120 square feet or any attached to the house. Requirements change, so we confirm them for your address.

What materials can a pergola be built from?

Materials come down to your preference. We go over wood, stone, finishes, and colors during your consultation, and we recommend quality materials, such as cedar rather than basic pressure-treated lumber when you want natural wood.

Do you build modern designs?

Yes. We design and build modern and traditional pergolas and covered structures. Bring photos of styles you like to your consultation.

How do I get a quote?

Use our contact page. We will set up an in-person meeting to go over your project, then send your quote after we meet.

Do you work with HOA approval?

Most master-planned communities require architectural review. Bring your HOA's design guidelines to the consultation and we will plan around them.

Can a pergola include lighting or an outdoor kitchen?

Yes. We build lighting and outdoor kitchens and can plan them together with your pergola.

How much does a pergola cost?

It depends on size, materials, foundation, stonework, and lighting. We give you a quote after we meet and see your space.
